#5 Tom Daly
Tom retired from his 33-year career as a police patrol and rescue pilot in
2006. He was a first responder during 9/11 and his other career efforts
earned two Congressional Awards, an FAA award for heroism, the Aviation
and Space Writers Award for Heroism, and numerous other awards for
Tom Daly graduated from Dowling College and received his MPS from
C.W. Post. Following retirement from the police department, Tom returned
to Dowling as the Dean of the College of Aviation and later serving as the
Dean of Students for the College. He currently serves as a member of the
advisory councils for the Cradle of Aviation Museum, Western Suffolk BOCES Aviation Program, and the Islip-MacArthur Airport.
In 2013, Tom was promoted to 9th degree Black Belt in the Chinese Goju Association at his martial arts school. His school, located in Malverne, New York, just celebrated 43 years in business. Also a racing enthusiast, he now holds five land speed records on three different motorcycles. Tom set a record at Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah on his turbo charged 750 Harley with an average speed of 126.217 MPH. He also set a record in Loring, Maine on his Buell with a speed of 137.547 MPH. Tom currently resides on Long Island with his wife and four children.
